Hot off the heels of 2021’s ‘Mercy of Memory’, Matthew Jameson returns to the soundscape he first explored in 2019’s 'The Second Dimension' with his newest venture.

Heavily influenced by French House, Jameson recorded 'This Side Down' in his home studio between March and May of 2022. Focused on distortion and repetition, it’s a deep album that flaunts the best qualities of his discography. However, unlike his previous work, this album does not feature an overarching concept, acting more as a passion project in homage to the genre. Daft Punk’s split was something of a driving force that inspired Matthew to delve into the genre, as the duo have always been one of Matthew’s favourite acts.

French House was not the only influence from across the channel that had an impact on this LP, as French Cinema also played a pivotal role. François Truffaut’s ‘Adventures of Antoine Doinel’ series, as well as Éric Rohmer’s ‘Le Rayon Vert’, helped shape the narratives behind the album’s tracks, acting as visual guides during composition.
