about

Evoking feelings of nostalgia, Jameson’s newest album reflects upon the power of remembrance as a mechanism to escape the present through its deep and precise instrumentation. In stark contrast to his previous album, ‘NOT THIS’, ‘Mercy of Memory’ deviates from harsh sonic environments to pieces that are smoother and slower. Opting to meander with the listener rather than dragging them over rocks. Named after a chapter in Svetlana Alexievich's ‘Second-Hand Time’, the album itself was recorded straight on to tape – along with a selection of analog and digital synthesisers.

“I wanted to try and produce an album that utilised sounds, textures and progressions that provoked a longingness for the past. It was made over the period of a week in November 2020, whilst I was isolating due to a family member testing positive for COVID-19.

“After the previous months of COVID related turmoil, I had started to feel pretty nostalgic for a time when I didn’t feel a sense of perpetual hopelessness, and the 12 days in isolation allowed me to consider those feelings with an open mind and start to construct the basis of the album. I wanted the album to be slow and brooding, the way a memory can be an unmoving snapshot of a single moment or period of time. I also wanted it to be melancholy, to represent the sense of loss that I felt - the loss of experiences, opportunity and hope."

I'd like to say thanks to:

My family and friends - for the encouragement and support.
Anyone else who has supported or listened to my music.

"Jameson’s deft command of tension and release coalesce to form an engrossing and refreshing experience in electronic sound." - Michael O’Neill for Narc Magazine (Issue #178 November 2021).
